Easy Multiplication with 99, 999, 9999... in 5 SECONDS!

Have you tried multiplying 9999 with 9941? How much time will you take to calculate it? Well I have a method with which you can solve this in 5 seconds! Not only this you can solve multiplication with 99, 999, 9999, 99999 and so on in 5 seconds! using this technique.

Hello friends this is Harsimran, your math guide. Today let' practice a very interesting technique which will let you multiply a number with 99, 999, 9999, etc. in total 5 seconds! and that too without a calculator. :) 

Lets start with a smaller number first i.e. lets see what is 41 multiplied by 99 = ?  

So this technique has the following steps :-

1. Divide the result area into two halves by drawing a line in between. 



2. Now next, determine the 'base' for the number 99. Base for 99 = 100 (can you guess why? Refer this link for understanding the concept of base - BASE CONCEPT ) 

3. After that, subtract 1 from the number (other than 99) i.e. 41 and write the subtracted value in L.H.S (left hand side) of the result area. Here's how :-

41 - 1 = 40


4. The last step is to subtract this value (in L.H.S of the result i.e. 40) from the other number i.e. 99. Let's do this :-

99 - 40 = 59

(Remember it is '40' not 41 as the value calculated in L.H.S (40) has to be subtracted and not the number (41) itself. )

So, now write this value i.e. 59 in R.H.S of the result as : -

Hence, the result is calculated which is :-

 41 X 99   =  4059 

So it was simple and fast. Just practice this technique more. Once practiced, not taking even a second more than 5 seconds, this method will definitely help you for the long run saving you some precious seconds and also where using calculator is next to impossible! (By the way calculator too will take 4 to 5 seconds :) ). This method will make you fast enough to subtract the need of a calculator!

So friends in a similar way we can do multiplication for three digit numbers like 441 with 999 or four digit numbers like 4414 X 9999  and so on. Let's see one :-

441 X 999

1. Base for 999 = 1000 (Refer here - BASE CONCEPTS)
2. Draw a line in between creating two halves L.H.S and R.H.S.

3. Subtract 1  from 441, such that :-
441 - 1 = 440

This becomes 'first part' (L.H.S) of the final result.

4. Next is to subtract this number i.e. 440 (remember it is not 441) from 999 which will result in :-

999 - 440 = 559

This becomes the 'second part' (R.H.S) of the final result

5. Therefore, the final answer will be :- (just combine both the results, '440' and '559')

Answer = 440 559

Therefore,

 441 X 999  =  440559 

So friends, reading the solution may take more time but performing it on your own you will definitely take 5 seconds even less too! 

So just practice to increase your speed and be your own expert.

MULTIPLY Easily and Fast - Solve (1005 X 1008) in seconds !!
